SCOTLAND on Sunday writers have won a remarkable 11 nominations in the Scottish Press Awards.

Four of our writers – Dani Garavelli, Peter Ross, Chitra Ramaswamy and Aidan Smith – won two nominations each.

Garavelli was nominated for scoop of the year (for her exclusive interview with the father who survived the Gairloch boating tragedy) and in the newspaper feature writer category.

Smith was nominated for the two categories he won last year: arts/entertainment journalist and sports feature writer.

Ramaswamy and Ross were both nominated in the magazine writer and newspaper feature writer categories.

Other SoS nominations were: Tom English for sports feature writer; Brian Adcock for cartoonist of the year; and Ian Rutherford for sports photographer of the year.

The winners – along with the recipient of journalist of the year, newspaper of the year and the lifetime achievement award – will be announced at a gala dinner at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow on 18 April, hosted by comedian and commentator Tam Cowan.

The Scottish Press Awards are now in their 34th year. They are organised by the Scottish Newspaper Society.
