Drug war truce

I AGREE with Allan Massie (Perspective, 28 May) that illegal drugs should be made legal. Drugs which are legal are always safer as they have to conform to a standard. And they can be taxed. Even more money will be saved by the police not having to pursue drug dealers who will be put out of business.

Regulation means children will be protected as they will find it as difficult to acquire cannabis as they do alcohol and tobacco.

Politicians have to be asked when the 43-year “war on drugs” will end so that it no longer does harm to the people it purports to protect. The drug war is crumbling in various countries without the world coming to an end; it is just a matter of time before it is ended in Britain.
