A NEW set of three children’s channels available only on YouTube are to be launched in the UK.

The new offering from Canadian firm DHX is part of Google-owned YouTube’s first paid-for content, which will allow viewers to watch on any device connected to the internet.

The channel will offer DHX Kids, DHX Junior and DHX Retro.

Michael Donovan, chief executive of DHX Media, which is behind characters including Madeleine and Rastamouse, said: “These channels represent another way in which the internet is enabling us to monetise our 8,500 half-hour library of leading children’s programming.”

DHX Retro is to show nostalgic childhood favourites including Inspector Gadget, Sonic Underground and Super Mario.

Channels will be available for two-week free trials with a usual price of $2.99 (£1.90) a month.
