Ideal weekend companion?
My best friend Robb Young, he is a fashion journalist and writer, he is based in London and tends to be away a lot with work so it’s quite rare that we get to spend quality time together and exploring the city in which I live in would be the best way to have an adventure on my doorstep and not be too exhausted trying to cram everything in at once.
Where would you take him in Edinburgh?
I have a real soft spot for Portobello. It’s within walking distance from where I live and there are a few hidden gems along the way, Portobello itself has some nice places to sit down and enjoy a cup of tea. Calton Hill is also a stone’s throw away from me and the views from the top are amazing! I love the Shore as it feels like I am in Holland! We are both culture vultures so a trip to the Modern Art Gallery is a must.
Where would you go for breakfast, lunch and dinner and why?
Breakfast – a place called Renroc, its changed hands recently and the new owner has turned the place around and the given the menu a complete makeover. Lunch would be at the Scottish Cafe at the national portrait gallery. The sandwiches are yummy and I love how everything is so Scottish. Dinner – too many to choose from but Beirut in Nicolson Square is good and also Oregano on Leith Walk – the best pizzas made from scratch!
What item could you not be without and why?
My i-Pod - music is such a great passion of mine and I have a track to fit any mood I’m in.
How would you finish your perfect weekend?
The benefit of living in a city that is renowned for its harsh weather is that cosy is done very well here in Edinburgh and a decent pub with a roaring fire is never hard to find. That, along with a quality glass of wine, would be the perfect ending to my prefect weekend.
