Average residential rents dropped 0.7 per cent per cent in the month to March, according to lettings agent network Your Move.
In absolute terms, this £4 drop takes the typical rent in Scotland down to £544 per month, the lowest level in almost a year.
However, tenants in cities such as Edinburgh have seen no fall in rental costs due to a higher level of demand than supply.
Brian Moran, lettings director at Your Move-Scotland, said: “Tenants in big cities like Edinburgh haven’t enjoyed the same reprieve at all.
“Investment from landlords needs to follow the tune of the jobs market and economic activity.”
