Scottish Property Awards: Build the best Scotland

The finalists in the second annual Scottish Property Awards must suffer for just a few hours more before the winners are announced tonight at a ceremony and dinner in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

More than 500 invitees from the Scottish commercial property industry will gather at the sell-out event to celebrate the best new commercial and public property in Scotland as well as marking the success of the sector’s top professional people and companies.

Supported by the Scottish Property Federation, the awards include The Scotsman’s own sponsored award for Best Achievement in Master Planning, which is being contested by the Fountainbridge Masterplan in Edinburgh; Persley Den in Aberdeen; D2 Business Park, Aberdeen; Hallhill, Dunbar; Pennywell Masterplan, Edinburgh; and Winchburgh Masterplan.

A range of business awards will also be presented including Funding Team, Property Agency team and the Outstanding Contribution award. Companies, councils, architects and development organisations across the country are all featured for their work and most will be represented at the EICC tonight.

The awards ceremony will be presented by Catriona Shearer of BBC Scotland and Grant Stott of Forth One, pictured.

The evening is also raising funds for the charity, It’s Good 2 Give, and will help fund the building of a luxury residential retreat for parents of children with
cancer.

Judges drawn from across the commercial property industry in Scotland met recently to decide the winners and, be assured, there was a high standard of entries.

The evening is set to launch in
dramatic style with a hi-tech drumming performance from drumming band, SPARK! with a spectacular display of light and sound.

While category winners prepare to hear the announcement of who will win the ultimate award, Property Company of the Year, guests will be entertained by Paul Tonkinson, the highly rated comedian who this year goes on tour for a second time supporting Michael McIntyre in his upcoming UK and Ireland arena tour.

John Hamilton of the Scottish Property Federation (SPF) believes the awards are a welcome recognition of the fact that the commercial sector is thankfully recovering after a few quiet years.

Hamilton says: “The SPF welcomes the ongoing strengthening of the property development, management and investment market in Scotland and elsewhere, and it’s encouraging that this sense of continuing stability has been borne out by a very strong representation of entries for this year’s Scottish Property Awards. As an organisation we’re focusing on people, places and property and we’re delighted to see so much emerging and established talent this year in the design, development and management sectors of the industry.

“We recognise the importance of the awards, both to the individual entrants and to the wider industry in general, as a barometer of the ongoing health of our business. We very much look forward to enjoying this year’s ceremony with the entrants and guests.”

Organised by KD Media with the support of a list of blue-chip sponsors, the second annual Scottish Property Awards ceremony will surely confirm that this award programme is here to stay.
