What are the best hotels in Scotland?

Of course one of the best hotels is situated in the capital, and is the former site of this publication - The Scotsman. The five-star hotel has welcomed celebrity guests including Justin Timberlake, Pink, Kiefer Sutherland, Tilda Swinton, John Cleese and Kofi Annan.

Being named one of the top hotels in the world by both Condé Nast Traveller and Departures magazine, and among the top 20 in the UK by Tatler, The Scotsman has won AA Hotel of the Year.

There are 69 hotels in the room and are all converted from the former offices of the newspaper, named after their previous function - such as the Editor rooms.

Why are musicians struggling in Edinburgh?

A rule stating that all live music must be inaudible from venues in neighbouring homes is causing problems for musicians.

Almost half, 42 per cent, of musicians have said they have been affected by the noise restrictions, over the past year.

The City Council is proposing a change, meaning that council officers would have to prove that live performances are causing a persistent nuisance to neighbours before a complaint is pursued.

This major rethink has come around after Edinburgh University revealed that the music scene was worth £40 million to the economy.

Glasgow vs Edinburgh

Scottish Baftas were announced

Robert Carlyle, David Tennant, Emma Thompson and the live stage version of Still Game are in the running for major honours at the annual Scottish Baftas.

Doctor Who’s creator Steven Moffat, Downton Abbey star Elizabeth McGovern and the comedy Billy Connolly shot in Scotland after being diagnosed with cancer will be in contention at next month’s ceremony.

Still Game star Greg Hemphill, who reunited with Ford Kiernan and the rest of the cast for the sell-out live show at the Hydro, is also nominated for a short film starring fellow comic Frankie Boyle as a recovering alcoholic.
