Top five Scottish whisky bars

Whyte & Mackay master blender Richard Paterson shares his favourite whisky watering holes.

Amber Restaurant, Edinburgh, Scotland

Situated in the historic surroundings of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, Amber Restaurant (located within the Scotch Whisky Experience) has a vast selection of whiskies which they pair with their excellent Scottish-inspired menu. scotchwhiskyexperience.co.uk

The Ardshiel Hotel, Campbeltown, Scotland

I was lucky enough to be asked to open their newly-refurbished whisky bar which was originally built by one of the whisky barons in the area. With its history and location, it’s hardly surprising that it is said to have the World’s largest collection of single malt whisky! www.ardshiel.co.uk

Situated just yards away from our Jura distillery, the Jura hotel is the hub of the island community and also my go-to place for dinner when I’m over on the island. It has a great selection of food, a daily ‘catch of the day’ special and the bar even has its very own exclusive Jura whisky that you won’t be able to try anywhere else.

Pot Still, Glasgow, Scotland

This bar is a sure-fire place to keep whisky aficionados contented as it houses one of the biggest whisky ranges in Glasgow. The only downside is that it is just too hard to choose which whisky to enjoy! www.thepotstill.co.uk

Whiski Rooms, Edinburgh, Scotland

One of the new kids on the block in Edinburgh’s whisky bar scene but its already a firm favourite of mine! The bar is flanked by a bistro and even boasts is own whisky shop. www.whiskirooms.co.uk
