Social Bite offers homeless a free Christmas meal

Social Bite, the chain of shops that already donates 100 per cent of its profits to charity and recruits people from homeless backgrounds, is now set to go one step further this Christmas.

Co-founders Josh Littlejohn and Alice Thompson are set to open their venues at St Vincent Street in Glasgow and the Rose Street shop in Edinburgh on Christmas Day exclusively for homeless people, offering them a free dinner.

The chain has teamed up with daily deals website Itison.com, who are waving all fees for the promotion, to offer people the chance to buy a homeless person Christmas dinner.

A donation of £5 will pre-pay for a meal at Christmas and a free coffee from Social Bite in the new year.

Social Bite co-founder Josh Littlejohn said: “Since we announced this idea on Facebook, the post went viral and was shared more than 5,000 times. We have had hundreds of offers from strangers looking to volunteer, people offering Christmas gifts, others offering to donate money planned for Christmas trees and decorations to our Christmas fund. It shows Christmas spirit is alive and well.”
