A new Punjabi eatery has set up shop in Leith, serving up winter warmers for locals in the form of home-cooked Punjabi grub made by mother and son Paula and Ryan Singh.

The dynamic team have rolled up their sleeves to cook up a storm of hot and spicy Punjabi street food dishes to serve at new pop-up venture Sabzi, devised by son and brother Stevie, each weekend.

Sazbi's hot, spicy and vibrant dishes served at its weekly weekend pop up in Leith hope to give locals an authentic taste of home-cooked Punjabi cuisine.

Stevie, a freelance photographer, said the idea for Sabzi came to him as a “eureka moment” when he and the family were recently enjoying a typically nourishing, home-made feast.

“We were sitting at the dinner table and just thought ‘there could be a market where you could potentially put this food out for people to eat’, because we felt there wasn’t really enough authenticity in the cooking and flavours that are out there in Indian restaurants,” he said.

Stevie continues: “So we decided that we wanted to get our cooking out there and let people into our little world of Punjabi heaven.”

Now the family spend their weeks cooking and preparing a feast for locals stopping by for some Punjabi grub each weekend at the pop-up on Ferry Road in Leith.

From 1-6pm every weekend, customers can find Sabzi serving up sweet Desi tea alongside an array of takeaway dishes, offering everything from vegetable samosas and Punjabi snacks to spicy curries.

The team has even put their own spin on a firm chippy favourite, with chips, cheese and hot Punjabi sauce up for grabs on this weekend’s menu.

Sabzi can be found operating every Saturday and Sunday at 162 Ferry Road, Edinburgh EH6 4NX from 1pm-6pm.
