There’s no arguing that 2020 has been a year like no other.

Our lives have each been changed in so many ways over the past 12 months.

It’s brought many of us closer together and has highlighted just how much we care for our families and our friends and our colleagues..

It’s been a time for communities to pull together and to help each other too.

And that’s why Glasgow Distillery has come up with a new way of saying a very personal “thank you” this Christmas to the people who have helped us out the most.

The distillery, which recently beat the likes of Ardbeg and Glenallachie distilleries to the title of Scottish Whisky Distillery of The Year, is giving fans the chance to personalise bottles of its Glasgow 1770 single malt Scotch.

And you can choose between two of the distillery’s award-winning whiskies.

Glasgow 1770 The Original, its fresh and fruity signature single malt, or Glasgow 1770 Peated, its rich and smoky single malt.

Plus, just because this year has been filled with many serious moments, it doesn’t mean you can’t be a wee bit cheeky with your personalised message.

“We’ve had some interesting requests for personalised messages so far,” revealed the distillery’s Sebastian Bunford-Jones.

“We most recently personalised a bottle for someone who was celebrating Scotland's ascent into the Euro 2021 finals and had a personalised bottle printed for him, complete with the words of ‘Yes sir, I can boogie’!”

“You can choose what to write on both the gift carton and on the label on the bottle, so they can be different messages.”

The nod to Scotland’s men qualifying for next year’s European Championships and celebrating with a bop to Baccara’s 1977 one hit wonder captures the fun character of Glasgow Distillery perfectly.

Founded in 2012 by Mike Hayward, Liam Hughes, and Ian McDougall, the distillery launched its maiden product, Makar Gin, in 2014 and unveiled its inaugural Glasgow 1770 single malt whisky in 2018.

The founders wanted to create a whisky brand that was accessible and didn’t have any of the stuffiness of other labels.

Instead, they’ve breathed fresh life into the whisky scene in Glasgow and brought an element of fun and experimentation to their products, including gins aged in mulberry and oak barrels..

As well as proving popular with families who want to treat their loved ones, and friends who want to say “thank you” to their mates, the personalised bottles are already a big hit as corporate gifts.

“We’ve also launched virtual party packs, so companies can treat their staff to online Christmas parties,” adds Bunford-Jones.

“We’ve come up with some fun games to play, and we’ll be running the online parties all the way through December.”

The Glasgow 1770 Personalised bottles are priced at £49 each – including the personalised message on the bottle and carton – and are available now from the distillery’s website or from its pop-up shop in Glasgow’s Buchanan Gallery, when restrictions allow.
