As part of the council’s community benefits, suppliers who win any major contract must commit to support local causes through community enhancement, training and employment opportunities, work placements, school curriculum support and SME supply chain development.

Leading electrical distributor, Rexel UK, was awarded a contract to supply the council’s housing service with all required electrical supplies, and as part of this will be donating to the Barrhead Foodbank to support their important work within the East Renfrewshire community.

Housing and Maintenance Services Convener, Councillor Danny Devlin said: “We are dedicated to ensuring that the residents of East Renfrewshire benefit from any significant council investment and I am pleased that through this work we have also been able to provide a donation to the Foodbank in Barrhead. They provide a vital service to our most vulnerable residents and this money will help them to continue to make a real difference.”

Andy Collins, public sector sales executive for Rexel, said: “Rexel UK are pleased to work closely with East Renfrewshire Council to provide products and services for the local housing services and to be able to support local causes through the community benefit initiative. As a business, it is essential that we can give back to the local community. Therefore, to be able to contribute to a vital local organisation such as East Renfrewshire Foodbank is incredibly important to us.”

Stan Esson, Barrhead Foodbank warehouse manager, said: “We would not be able to operate without the excellent support we receive from the East Renfrewshire community and we are hugely grateful to Rexel and the Council for this donation.”
