HARRY Potter star Robbie Coltrane is set to appear in an episode of the revival of Yes, Prime Minister based around Scottish independence.

Coltrane, the star of TV’s Cracker, will play an as-yet-unconfirmed key role in the episode, one of six commissioned by the GOLD digital channel.

The show will be written by the original team of Jonathan Lynn and Sir Antony Jay, and is set to star David Haig, who played the Prime Minister in the recent theatrical revival of the 70s classic.

UKTV’s chief executive Darren Childs promised that the show will deal with current events such as the euro crisis as well as the independence debate.

“The stories are topical and up to date,” he said at the launch of the new series in London. “There are episodes about coalition, the euro crisis and Scottish devolution. And Robbie Coltrane has agreed to play a very key part in that episode, which is exciting.”

It was revealed earlier this year that Prime Minister David Cameron wrote an essay for his thesis at Oxford entitled ‘How True to Life is Yes Minister?’
