THE frontman of Scottish indie rock band The View has been arrested and charged with assault after an alleged disturbance.
Kyle Falconer, 28, a founding member of the chart-topping band, best known for their 2007 single “Same Jeans”, was detained by officers after the alleged incident in West Marketgait in Dundee city centre the early hours of Sunday morning (4 Oct).
An eyewitness said he had seen an altercation outside of the Shell petrol station.
He said: “I had come out of the casino after someone I was with did not get in because they had forgotten their card.
“I first noticed a man standing speaking to police officers.
“I went across to the garage and when I came out there was an argument going on. There was a lot of shouting.”
It is alleged that the assault then took place.
Officers who were nearby were seen to detain one man. The eyewitness added: “The police that had been outside of the casino came across and intervened.
“Another police car turned up and two officers got out.
“They were speaking to two men and then they arrested one of them and told the other to go home.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said today: “Police Scotland can confirm a 28-year-old man was charged in connection with a disturbance at 3.45am on Sunday October 4, at West Marketgait, Dundee.
“A report was sent to the procurator fiscal.”
The View formed while three of the band members attended St John’s High School in Dundee.
After signing a record deal, they rose to prominence in 2007 with debut album Hats Off to the Buskers, which entered the charts at No 1 and was nominated for the Mercury Prize.
It went on to sell more than 300,000 copies and went platinum.
The album included their best-selling single to date, Same Jeans, which peaked at No 3 in the charts.
They released compilation album Seven Year Setlist in 2013 and their fifth studio album, Ropewalk, came out last month — to favourable reviews from critics.
The band has also been a favourite of
T in the Park organisers, making eight appearances at the music festival.
Their last appearance was this year, where they played a set on the main stage during the Sunday of the weekend-long event.
