SCOTTISH pop star Emeli Sandé’s special homecoming gig in Aberdeen sold out in minutes today after tickets went on sale for the concert at the city’s Music Hall.

The chart topping singer, who is from Alford in Aberdeenshire, is to play a special concert at the Aberdeen Music Hall on Friday, 19 April, at the end of her solo tour of British venues.

And a spokeswoman for Aberdeen Performing Arts revealed that all the tickets for the show had been snapped up within 70 minutes of going on sale this morning.

She said: “Tickets for the concert to wind up her solo UK tour went on sale at Aberdeen Box Office at 9am today initially to APA Friends, and sold out in 70 minutes.

“They flew out of the door at breath-taking speed. We knew it was going to be a hugely popular gig – Emeli obviously has an enormous following in a city which regards her with great affection as their own.”

She continued: “People started queuing just after 7am and the phones have never stopped. Luckily we drafted extra staff in to cope with the calls, so all went well and we are now looking forward enormously to what is sure to be a fantastic gig on 19 April.”

Emeli, whose latest album “Our Version Of Events” has sold more than 1.5 million copies, made her last appearance in the city s part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay in June, where she played a short set to fans at the city’s Castlegate. Her last full concert in the city, a sell-out show at the Music Hall, was in April 2012.
