SCOTTISH pop star Emeli Sandé is to play a second homecoming gig in Aberdeen after tickets for the first concert sold out within minutes last week.

The chart topping singer, who is from Alford in Aberdeenshire, had last week announced plans to play a special gig at the Aberdeen Music Hall on Friday, 19 April, at the end of her nationwide tour. But the tickets for the show were snapped up within 70 minutes when they went on sale last Friday.

Aberdeen Performing Arts today announced that the pop star will now be staging a second concert on the same day - at 4.30pm - for disappointed fans.

Emeli, whose latest album Our Version Of Events has sold more than 1.5 million copies, said: “I was really disappointed that there were so many people who were unable to get a ticket, so because of that, I’ll be playing a special early evening show to accommodate the demand.

“I’m really looking forward to what is now going to be a very special day back with family, friends and fans in my hometown.”

A spokeswoman for APA explained: “Tickets for the earlier gig, with doors at 4.30pm, go on sale at 9am tomorrow on a first-come first-served basis online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall and His Majesty’s Theatre. The doors-open time for the later concert will be pushed back a little, from 7.30pm to 8pm, to accommodate the earlier performance, and Aberdeen Box Office will be contacting ticket holders about the new time.”

Emeli’s last appearance in the city was her headlining performance as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay in June, where she played a short set to fans at the city’s Castlegate. Her last full concert in the city, a sell-out show at the Music Hall, was in April 2012.
