Saddle sore? Peruvian cyclists slip out of gear for protest

AROUND 300 nude and nearly-nude bicyclists rode through the Peruvian capital of Lima at the weekend to call attention to safety conditions and demand measures protecting cyclists.

Event organiser Octavio Zegarra said the protesters took to their bicycles nude to show that “this is our body”.

He added: “With this we go out in the streets. We don’t have a car to protect us.”

Official statistics show that 2,830 people died in traffic accidents in Peru in 2011.
