Indian Accent in Kilmarnock revealed earlier this week that it is selling a pizza that claims to feature a topping of the nocturnal mammal.

The dish, which also contains chicken, lamb and chillies, is being sold for between £6.50 and £11.50.

Head chef Anser Anton, 43, said he wanted to bring “unique flavours” to the people of Kilmarnock.

Council investigation

East Ayrshire Council, who are responsible for food hygiene ratings in Kilmarnock, confirmed they will investigate the restaurant.

In a statement, a council spokesman said: “Officers from East Ayrshire Council will be fully investigating this matter to ensure that the restaurant owner is complying with all relevant legislation.”

‘It’s immoral!’

People across social media reacted with disgust at the suggestion they could choose to eat aardvark.

One said: “It’s immoral… why eat aardvark.” Another wrote: “Aardvark is a staple of the Kilmarnock diet.”

One customer in the shop said: ''It was really bizarre. A woman in a white coat and a hair net said she was an inspector and wanted more information on the aardvark pizza.

''She said she needed to know where it was from and if they had documentation. The staff member was saying it was only called an aardvark pizza, there wasn't actually aardvark in it.

''He said it was just spicy mince, chicken and lamb.''
