8 new restaurants to look out for in Edinburgh this autumn

Edinburgh is cooling off after another busy festival season.

But if you feel like going out again and trying something new this autumn, why not visit some recently opened restaurants in Scotland's capital. Here are some exciting openings to look out for;

Rustom

Serving both Pakistani and Indian food, Rustom in Haymarket will officially open on Wednesday September 5th at 5pm. The restaurant's Facebook page says it will "take you through a journey of taste and smell across the streets of Lahore and Mumbai."

Dishes on offer range from street foods and delicacies like "maghaz," a sheep's brain cooked in various spices, to age old traditional recipes like Korma, Bhuna and Tikka Masala.

Thrive Cafe Bar

This restaurant and cafe recently opened in Bruntsfield and offers a range of vegan and veggie options as well as cocktails, craft beers and wines.

The menu is 100% veggie and vegan, with diners given the choice of a host of meals such as tempura battered cauliflower and a black bean burger.

Sonder

Recently opened in Newington's South Clerk Street, Sonder offers modern European cuisine using Scottish seasonal ingredients.

The menu is relatively small but focuses on use of quality ingredients and interesting flavour combinations. The latest sharing option on their menu is a standout - a mouthwatering barbecued red legged partridge served with seaweed potatoes and various greens.

Southside Scran

Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin and his award-winning team are expected to open their fourth restaurant, Southside Scran, in the heart of Bruntsfield in November.

Featuring an open rotisserie in the middle of the brass-accented, open-plan dining room, the Edinburgh bistro's menu will incorporate the best of Scotland's produce, with hints of Tom's passion for French cuisine.

The Kitchin Group also operates the Michelin-starred Kitchin in Leith, Castle Terrace in Edinburgh's city centre and the Scran and Scallie in Stockbridge.

Kcal Kitchen

Want to dine out very healthily? Then try out Kcal Kitchen which recently opened in Leith. Its breakfast menu is packed full of protein-infused goodness and an extensive dinner menu offers dishes ranging from Kentucky style chicken strips and burgers to super clean salads. Dessert options include brownies, chocolate and peanut butter tarts and protein ice cream.

You can also sit and enjoy a raft of fruit flavoured drinks, coffees and teas and, yes, you've guessed it, a variety of protein shakes. Interestingly, they also offer some 'wellness shots' such as the 'cure me now' which consists of ginger, lemon, cayenne pepper and tumeric. Kcal Kitchen already has a restaurant in Glasgow.

Scotts Bar and Restaurant

The eagerly-anticipated Scotts Bar and Restaurant is set to open this month at Port Edgar Marina in South Queensferry, although a date is yet to be confirmed.

This will be the first premises on the east coast of Scotland for Scotts, a highly regard seafood restaurant chain with flagship restaurants in Troon and Largs. The chain is run by family hospitality group Buzzworks Holdings. The new restaurant in Queensferry will boast a boat shed facade with a wall of windows to provide spectacular views across the Forth the bridges. A striking seafood display will also be set into the main bar where chefs will prepare dishes from the new oyster bar menu in front of guests.

The Little Chartroom

This cosy little restaurant opened up in the summer and their website describes the offering as a "small, neighbourhood bistro."

The menu isn't big, but what's on it smacks of someone who knows their craft. It is run by husband and wife team Shaun McCarron and head chef Roberta Hall, who has previously worked at The Kitchin and Castle Terrace.

83 Hanover Street

It's the sister restaurant to the hugely popular bar 99 Hanover Street and offers a range of great drinks and dishes inspired by Chilean flavours.

83 Hanover Street is the first dining project from Chilean born Juan Jose Castillo Castro, a former Gleneagles restaurant manager. The menu celerates bold and rich flavours presented across an array of small plates, ideal for sharing. Dishes served include the likes of charcuterie, seafood and homemade empanadas, a Latin American pastry turnover filled with various savoury ingredients and baked or fried.
