Theatre review: Delay Detach

Have your say

Two strong performances go a long way to – just about – sustain your attention for this time-skipping story of an unlikely female friendship.

Rating: **

Venue: Greenside @ Infirmary Street (Venue 236)

Caitlin (Amy Chubb) and Sophie (Cara Mahoney) are “besties” – or so Caitlin likes to think anyway. After first meeting in nursery they hook up again at school and at significant moments all the way into their seventies.

While their enduring relationship stretches credulity, as it’s littered with casual cruelty and betrayal, the efficient staging whisks Joanna Alpern’s script along. But even at a brisk 50 minutes, this feels overlong.

Until 20 August. Today 7:40pm
