Be very, very worried about the internet. Why? Nicholas Carr tells us it's making us dumber. Of course, every new technology has its doomsayers. Socrates came out against the written word, for example. But does Carr have a point? Possibly. It's a crucial debate. For 500 years, says Carr, the way we think has been moulded by the book. But now the internet is killing the book. Radio didn't kill the book. TV didn't kill the book. They were like picadors in a bullfight, who weaken the bull. Enter the matador.
