Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is set to be boosted with fresh attacking options for Saturday’s Premiership fixture against Ross County at Ibrox as Kemar Roofe prepares to return to full training.

Roofe has missed Rangers’ last two games with the calf injury which forced him to be substituted at half-time of the 1-0 home win against Celtic on January 2.

The 28-year-old forward had been in prolific and influential form for the league leaders before then, having scored nine times in his previous 11 appearances.

Roofe, signed from Anderlecht for £3.5 million last August, will provide Gerrard with a full complement of strikers to choose from again as he rejoins Alfredo Morelos, Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe in the battle for places in the starting line-up.

Midfielder Ryan Jack should also make his return to Gerrard’s matchday squad for the visit of John Hughes’ County side who have been lifted by their 4-1 win over Aberdeen in Dingwall last Saturday.

Scotland international Jack, sidelined since November 22 with a knee problem, had been in contention to make his comeback against Motherwell at Fir Park after restarting full training last week.

But Gerrard opted to wait a little longer and left Jack in the stand for the 1-1 draw on Sunday which left Rangers 21 points clear of Celtic at the top of the Premiership table.

Jack’s fellow midfielder Scott Arfield, absent since damaging ankle ligaments during the Boxing Day win over Hibs at Ibrox, is stepping up his rehabilitation with gym work ahead of a likely return at the start of February.
