Jamie Dobie signs new contract with Glasgow Warriors and is invited to train with Scotland Six Nations squad

Scrum-half prospect Jamie Dobie has signed a new contract with Glasgow Warriors to set the seal on a memorable week for the teenager.

The 19-year-old was one of three young players invited to train with Scotland during the Six Nations and will join Edinburgh forward Rory Darge and Glasgow winger Rufus MacLean when the squad goes into camp on Sunday.

Dobie has become a regular in the Warriors squad this season in what is his second campaign as a professional. He has been involved in every Glasgow matchday 23 since November’s away victory against Cardiff Blues.

Ali Price’s involvement with Scotland during the Six Nations and George Horne’s injury should ensure that Dobie continues to get game-time with the Scotstoun club.

Originally from Inverness, Dobie has now made 15 appearances for Glasgow. The former Scotland Under-18 captain won man-of-the-match on his first start for the Warriors, against Dragons last February.

Coach Danny Wilson praised the player’s maturity during his two years at Scotstoun.

“Jamie is great young scrum-half,” said Wilson. “We’ve seen him step up in these last two seasons and show what he can do.

“We’re focused on bringing through and developing young talent. Being able to retain Jamie and continue his development at the club, learning from the likes of Ali, George and Sean [Kennedy] is fantastic.

“He’s has shown a real maturity in how he directs players around the park, is a threat with ball in hand and his kicking game is developing well.

“We’re looking forward to seeing him continue to kick on and grow in a Warriors jersey.”

Dobie, the first player born in the 21st century to play for the Warriors, told glasgowwarriors.org: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club, being part of the squad and being in the environment with the boys.

“I’ve spent a lot of time learning and it’s been great to have the two top scrum-halves in the country to learn from.

“Despite the results not going our way, we’re moving in the right direction as a squad and as club, and I’m looking forward to being part of that for the next few years.”
