Scotland scored over 50 points in a Five/Six Nations Championship match for the first time as they swept Italy aside at BT Murrayfield. Gregor Townsend’s side plundered eight tries in the 52-10 victory. Here’s how the Scotland players rated:

Switched from wing to full-back and was always an attacking threat when he joined the line. 7/10

14 Darcy Graham

Recovered from a crunching hit in the first half and scored a simple try. 7

Untouchable as he was constantly breaking the Italian line and sliced through their defence. Scored his 12th Test try. 8

12 Sam Johnson

Quick to close down Italy at the set-piece and a willing carrier, whose breaks led to two tries and he deservedly got one of his own. 8

11 Duhan van der Merwe

Broke through tackle after tackle and was rewarded for a super performance with a pair of tries. 8

10 Stuart Hogg

Didn’t look out of place after stepping into the fly-half role in the absence of Finn Russell who missed out with a head knock. 7

9 Scott Steele

Was tidy behind the scrum and provided the back line with quick ball. Scored a try on his first Scotland start. 7

1 Rory Sutherland

Part of a dominant Scottish front row and provided solid support at the breakdown. 7

2 David Cherry

Scored two tries on his first start for Scotland and was always in the thick of the action. 8

3 Zander Fagerson

Carried well in his first game for a month as Scotland were always on the front foot. 7

Replacements:

Scotland changed their entire front row after 50 minutes and they didn’t miss a beat as the hosts continued their set-piece dominance. Ali Price and Jaco van der Walt kept Scotland’s free-flowing play going at half-back and Price’s break made van der Merwe’s second try.
