Historic castle featured on Game of Thrones which boasts 99 bedrooms and 10 receptions rooms hits the market

Fans of Game of Thrones may recognise the impressive and historical Gosford Castle, which is currently on the market.

On sale for a surprising price, Gosford Castle is a grade A listed building which was built in the mid-1800s by the 2nd Earl of Gosford, Archibald Acheson.

It was designed in the Norman Revival style by London architect Thomas Hopper and was occupied by the Earls of Gosford until 1921.

The castle was commandeered and accommodated troops during the Second World War, plus a prisoner of war camp was set up on the estate during this time.

After the Second World War, the castle was sold to the Ministry of Agriculture who established the 590 acre Gosford Forest Park, which, in 1986, became Northern Ireland’s first conservation forest.

On the market for offers over £500,000, sellers Maison Real Estate describe the property and its potential: "In 2006 the castle was bought by Gosford Castle Development Limited who put forward a £4m proposal to restore the Grade A listed building into 23 luxury residences.

"The restoration was undertaken by artisans and craftsmen with a focus on retaining the character and historic integrity of the castle.

"Particular care was taken to use existing features such as staircases and vaulted ceilings and even to use original colour schemes wherever possible.

This portion of the castle for sale has been partially developed in places and could be converted into six luxury apartments, some with roof gardens.
