Five famous names you never realised were from Scotland

Whether born in Scotland or descendant of a proud Scot, some of the worlds most prominent figures have hailed from the country.

Tony Blair

Before settling down in Downing Street, Tony Blair once called Edinburgh his home. After attending school in the capital city, the former prime minister set off to London to find fame as a rock star.

In her BAFTA award acceptance speech, Moore gushed over her “five Scottish women”, her great aunts May, Mary and Cissy, grandmother Flora and mother Anne. The award winning actresses mother lived in Greenock before emigrating to America in 1951 where she remained a proud Scot.

Band members Angus Young and his brother Malcolm hail from Glasgow and lived in Cranhill until the family emigrated to Australia in 1963. In recent years, the pair have spoken about how their impoverished early years in the city inspired them to achieve international success.

Donald Trump

Foul mouthed celebrity chef Ramsay was born in Johnstone, Renfrewshire before moving down South. The chef trained with Rangers Football Club before going on to find international success.
