After weeks of a Scottish election campaign like no other – characterised by video calls, physical distancing and virtual huddles – polling day is finally here.

Voters will have the final say up until the polls close at 10pm. Then it will become a waiting game.

Unlike past elections, Covid restrictions have halted the traditional through-the-night counting of votes.

Instead counts have been scheduled to start from 9am across Scotland both tomorrow and Saturday, with the final regional list results, including whether Mr Salmond wins a place in the Scottish Parliament, not expected to be known until Saturday evening.
