Work begins at JK’s £10m research unit

WORK has started on a new research centre funded by a £10 million donation from Harry Potter author JK Rowling, with the facility now expected to be up and running by the autumn.

The city writer donated the money towards the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic at Little France in memory of her mother.

She died at the age of 45 after suffering from multiple sclerosis, one of the illnesses the facility hopes to tackle.

Construction firm Mansell recently started work on the Edinburgh University building, which will form a key part of the research hub.

It is hoped that the research unit will attract leading scientists and drug companies to the Capital from all over the world.
