Virus threat closes hospital wards

TWO more wards at a hospital have been closed to admissions because of an outbreak of a bug thought to be norovirus.

Eight wards at Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Renfrewshire, are shut because of a rise in the number of people showing symptoms of the bug.

Last week, two people suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting died in the hospital.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said there were now 24 people with diarrhoea and vomiting in the hospital. Infection control measures are in place.

Meanwhile, visitors to two Highland hospitals have been asked to restrict their visits. NHS Highland said there had been an increase in of cases of diarrhoea and vomiting. Raigmore Hospital in Inverness has two wards closed to admissions, while a ward at Caithness General has also been shut.
