Two patient deaths at bug-hit hospital

Two more patients suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting, thought to be the Norovirus bug, have died in hospital.

Four people have now died at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Renfrewshire, following two earlier deaths on Friday. The two latest patients died due to underlying medical conditions but NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said diarrhoea and vomiting were contributory factors in one of the deaths.

A spokesman for the health board said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the patients’ families at this difficult time.”

Eight wards have been closed at the hospital and 34 patients are said to be showing symptoms of the bug.

The health board said strict infection control measures are in place at the hospital.
