Tough Mudders catch E coli

Three people have contracted a potentially deadly strain of E coli after taking part in an outdoor challenge event almost a month ago.

More than 5,000 people from across the world took part in the Tough Mudder, which involved significant immersion in mud.

The trio, all adults, were
diagnosed with E coli 0157 in
the days following the event, which took place at Drumlanrig Castle, Dumfries and Galloway, on 14 and 15 July.

They are being treated by
two health boards elsewhere in Scotland.

Participants had to negotiate muddy trenches, 4ft flames and icy water on the 12-mile course.
