Three more treated over nursery bug

THREE more children are being treated after a suspected E coli 0157 outbreak at a baby unit at a nursery school.

NHS Grampian last night confirmed infection control specialists at the health authority are investigating one more confirmed case, and two further suspected cases, of the potentially deadly infection in children who attend Rose Lodge Nursery School in Aboyne.

The board is now treating a total of nine cases – three confirmed and six suspected.

One of the three youngsters who had been treated in hospital since falling ill earlier in the week was allowed home yesterday.

The baby unit at the nursery school, which looks after children between the ages of six weeks to five, has been closed while investigations continue to identify the source of the bug.

A spokeswoman for NHS Grampian said: “The investigation is not confined to the nursery, whose staff are co-operating fully with the investigation.

“We have contacted staff, parents and carers of all the children who attend the nursery and provided them with information about the ongoing investigation and the control measures that have been put in, and remain in place.”
