Surgery bid for gypsies

A CAPITAL NHS practice is planning to open a £60,000 mobile doctor’s surgery for gypsies.

Health bosses want to introduce a permanent service whereby staff visit gypsy encampments, including unauthorised ones, to make health checks.

The Edinburgh Access Practice argues that gypsies and travellers have only “sporadic self-initiated engagement’ with health services.

And it is calling for similar schemes across Scotland to be introduced at a cost of hundreds of thousands of pounds.
