Sixth death at care home

A SIXTH resident has died at the Scottish care home at the centre of a fatal flu outbreak.

NHS Tayside yesterday confirmed six elderly residents were now known to have died at the Orchar Nursing Home in Broughty Ferry, near Dundee.

A total of 27 residents at the home have been affected, including the six who died.

A spokeswoman for NHS Tayside said: “All appropriate infection control measures have been put in place in the care home and there is no increased risk to the wider public. Where appropriate, residents have been offered antivirals, which can reduce the severity and infectiousness of influenza in those affected.”
