SEVEN cases of E coli 0157 have now been confirmed after an outbreak at a Scottish nursery.

NHS Grampian’s health protection team is continuing to investigate the source of the outbreak.

Staff and parents and carers of all children who attend the nursery have been contacted.

E.coli O157 bacteria are commonly carried in the gut of various farm animals and untreated water supplies can also contain the bacteria.

Symptoms of infection include abdominal cramps, loss of appetite and vomiting.

The health board advised parents to contact their GP or NHS24 if they are concerned about the health of their children.

The first child to fall ill eight days ago attends the baby unit at the nursery. Around 40 children usually attend the nursery.
