Scots family best in the UK at giving up chocolate for charity

Highland family raise thousands of pounds in mammoth '˜dechox'.

The Munro family from Nairn were inspired to take part in a four week ‘dechox’, organised by the British Heart Foundation, as a thank you to staff at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

As a result, they raised £4,500.

Marie Munro and her nine-year-old daughter Lana decided to take part in the event and raise the money as a thank you to the care given to Marie’s father, and the whole family.

Marie explained that over 20,000 people across the UK signed up for the dechox and she’s delighted that they have come out as the top fundraisers.

She said: “We got tremendous support and received a lot of donations for taking part. We also held a raffle and Lana did a ‘guess the eggs in the jar’ at her dance class and school.

“Friends and family were incredibly supportive and we even had Oliver Proudlock from Made in Chelsea and his girlfriend Emma Connolly round to the house for tea and scones.

“Oliver is an ambassador for the BHF so when he realised he was in the area he wanted to come along and say hello. It was great to meet him and both of them were so good to Lana.

“I’m so very proud of Lana for all she has achieved, £4,500 in four weeks is amazing and we just hope it helps as a thank you on behalf of my father and my whole family. It’s very little in comparison to what they have done for us.”

Professor Steve Leslie, consultant cardiologist for NHS Highland, said: “This is a phenomenal effort and we are very grateful to Lana and her supporters.

“The BHF does great work in Scotland for cardiac patients in both research and supporting clinical services.”
