Scotland’s children have something to grin about

Scotland’s chief dentist is encouraging parents to make sure children stick to a teeth-brushing routine, after figures reveal children have the best dental health since records began.

The Scottish Government said children’s dental health has “never been better”, with almost 70 per cent of primary seven children having no obvious sign of tooth decay.

Recent figures also show that 64 per cent of primary one children have no obvious sign of decay – the highest percentage ever recorded.

Margie Taylor, Scotland’s chief dental officer, said: “We know that over the festive period we can sometimes overindulge in chocolates and sugary treats.

“Make sure you keep to your regular routine of brushing your teeth morning and night – this can play an important role in helping to keep you and your children’s teeth healthy.”
