£54m to fight hospital bugs

THE fight against hospital superbugs will be boosted by a £54 million investment by the Scottish Government.

Nicola Sturgeon, the health secretary, will today outline a new three-year spending plan to cut healthcare associated infections.

Ms Sturgeon will launch a pilot test of a new MRSA screening programme starting next year for patients going into hospital.

NHS boards will also be set a target of demonstrating at least 90 per cent "hand hygiene compliance" by this time next year.
