Potato event helps chip in £4.4m to city

A BRAIN injury conference and an event about potatoes are among £4.4 million of new business attracted to the Capital.

Marketing Edinburgh Convention Bureau has confirmed that 19 new conferences with a combined value of £4.4m will take place between now and 2014.

Highlights include the Ninth World Congress on Brain Injury, which will bring 1000 delegates to the city from March 22-25, and the World Potato Congress from May 27-31, which will see 600 delegates descend on the city.

During March, April and May, 25 conferences, which have been won or confirmed through the efforts of Marketing Edinburgh Convention Bureau, will be held in the Capital. These conferences have a combined value of £14.3m and will attract 11,500 delegates.

The events will benefit hotels, restaurants and shops in the city.
