Opticians see fewer Scots for eye tests

FEWER people in Scotland are having their eyes checked despite the tests being free of charge, new figures show.

There was a 9 per cent drop in the number of people going for an initial eye test in the last year.

A recent study revealed many people were put off going for the check-ups because of the costs involved in buying glasses and contact lenses.

The tests now include comprehensive eye examinations to test the health of someone’s eye and can pick up signs of a number of health conditions including high blood pressure and cancer.
