Hospice makes space for car park to help with revamp

A NEW car park for staff and volunteers is set to be developed by St Columba’s Hospice, to help during the ongoing redevelopment.

The St Columba’s £26 million rebuild project will see the Boswall Road hospice transformed over the next four years.

During the temporary relocation of patient facilities to the Kirklands House site at Gogarbank, it has been agreed that allowing the families of patients, and other visitors, to use the existing staff car park would provide the easiest access for them.

To accommodate this, the hospice has now applied for planning permission to develop a temporary car park, which would be used by staff and volunteers.

The hospice is set to move to Kirklands House on February 20, and the area already has disabled parking facilities. Around 30 new spaces have been proposed for the staff car park.

The first major milestone in the rebuilding of the hospice was reached last year with the completion of a new education centre, which included a purpose-built lecture theatre, seminar rooms and social spaces, along with a library and computer suite.
