Hastings has a mountain to climb for Parkinson’s

RUGBY legend Gavin Hastings is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds to fight Parkinson’s Disease.

His wife Diane suffers from the condition and he hopes his efforts can help fund ground-breaking treatments.

Hastings, who will turn 50 tomorrow, aims to raise £50,000 by scaling the 19,341ft mountain in Tanzania later this month.

He said: “Because of Diane’s condition, I met this guy called Bryn ‘Wobbly’ Williams who suffers from the same disease. He set up his own charity and one of his projects is to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro on January 17, which is the day Muhammad Ali celebrates his 70th birthday.”
