Family was ‘spared bad news’

A NURSE who told an elderly patient’s family that he was “not looking well” after he had died was motivated by “compassion not deceit”, a hearing was told.

Faye Wilson, 52, admitted withholding information from the patient’s relative during an early morning phone call, but told the Nursing and Midwifery Council that she did so to spare the man’s daughter the distress of hearing bad news first thing in the morning.

The panel cleared Ms Wilson of acting dishonestly following the incident at the Beach Court Care Home in Aberdeen. She was also cleared of not keeping an accurate record of events involving the man’s death on 17 May, 2009. She faces three other charges.

The hearing continues.
