Ethnic groups get deaf help

An information day is to be held for black and minority ethnic families who have deaf children.

The National Deaf Children’s Society is organising the event on Saturday, March 17 to provide families with information on the specialist support they can access.

The charity’s Varshali Swadi said: “Language barriers and limited knowledge of education and health systems prevent many parents from ethnic minority communities from accessing support that is essential to their children’s development.”

Bilingual support workers will be available at the event, which takes place at the Quaker Meeting House, 7 Victoria Terrace, from 9.30am to 3pm.
