Eating disorder unit opens

A NEW hospital unit for people with eating disorders was due to be opened at St John’s Hospital this morning by public health minister Michael Matheson.

The £500,000 South East Scotland Regional Eating Disorders Unit includes 12 bedrooms, a therapeutic kitchen and dining areas. It was initially due to open last summer but was delayed because, according to NHS Lothian, it was “major and complex” project.

The centre will treat patients from Lothians, Borders, Fife and Forth Valley.

Mr Matheson said: “This unit will provide improved access to specialist care, treatment and support for service users, their carers and families.”
