Doctor facing inquiry over allegation about qualifications

A DOCTOR accused of giving misleading information in job applications and taking up a post in Scotland for which he was not qualified, is facing an inquiry.

Dr Asim Ayyub is appearing before the General Medical Council (GMC) hearing to investigate whether his fitness to practise has been impaired.

The doctor undertook work in the Grampian and Lothian regions, as well as applying to work in Yorkshire and Humberside.

The GMC said their panel, sitting in Manchester, would "inquire into the allegation that Dr Ayyub, between August 2006 and January 2009, gave misleading and dishonest information when applying for various posts and training schemes".

"It is further alleged that Dr Ayyub undertook posts for which he was not qualified," the GMC said.

The hearing is expected to last around two weeks.
