Culture link in chest pain rates

Scots of Pakistani origin are 50 per cent more likely to be admitted to hospital with angina and chest pain than those of Indian ethnicity, according to a new study.

Overall, people of both Indian and Pakistani origin have much greater levels of hospital admissions for the conditions than people of white Scottish ethnicity. On the other hand researchers found that Chinese people in Scotland have the lowest levels of admissions to hospital for chest pains, compared to other ethnic groups.

Experts concluded the differences were most likely down to lifestyle-related factors.
