Western Isles: Three people have tested positive for coronavirus in the Outer Hebrides

NHS Western Isles has confirmed that close contacts are being advised to self-isolate.

Three people have tested positive for coronavirus in the Outer Hebrides.

NHS Western Isles has confirmed the individuals are based in the Uists, and that all their close contacts are advised to self isolate.

They have also added that Test and Protect actions are underway and a Problem Assessment Group has been established to discuss the next steps.

NHS Western Isles Director of Public Health, Dr Maggie Watts said: “Following the identification of these positive results, the individuals involved have been asked to self isolate for ten days from onset of symptoms and we are tracing all their contacts, who are also being advised to self

isolate for fourteen days from the date of their last contact with the case as a precaution.

“To respect and maintain patient confidentiality, we will not be releasing any further details at this time.”

“We would like to reassure our local communities and visitors to the island that we are taking all necessary steps to contain the virus but it is vital that everyone in the Western Isles follows the current Scottish Government restrictions and FACTS guidance to limit any spread of the virus.”

This news comes after 558 new cases were recorded on Friday, the highest ever recorded in one day.

The Scottish Government have imposed new restrictions including a 10 pm curfew for pubs and restaurants as well as a ban on indoor visits inside other people’s homes.

Students in Scotland have been asked not to socialise outside their halls or student flats this weekend.
