For the first time, figures have been published showing the number of Covid-19 related deaths by local area in Scotland.

Renfrewshire Rural North and Langbank has the highest number of coronavirus deaths in the country, according to the latest statistics from the National Records of Scotland (NRS).

It comes as the number of deaths linked to Covid-19 hit 4,070 – with the stats dropping for the seventh week in a row.

Pete Whitehouse, Director of Statistical Services, said: “Every death from this virus is a tragedy.

“These statistics, alongside the other important evidence being made available by the Scottish Government and Health Protection Scotland (HPS), are valuable to the understanding of the progress and impact of the Covid-19 virus across Scotland."
