Production of ventilators to help NHS to begin in Kelso, Michael Gove confirms

The Government has confirmed that production of new ventilators to help the NHS fight covid-19 will begin in Kelso next week.

Michael Gove announced on Saturday (4 April) that the vital machinery will be produced as a factory in the Scottish Borders by the Diamedica and Plexus companies.

The Cabinet Office minister said: "Next week, production of another ventilator device from the companies Diamedica and Plexus will start at their factory in Kelso.

"The design is based on an existing product already in use in the NHS."

The news comes as the latest figures for Scotland show deaths from coronavirus rose by 46 in just 24 hours, bringing the total to 218.
